MALBA, Rolling Stone (Tibás, San José, Costa Rica), Unknown Soldiers (Buenos Aires and Uruguay), Fish and Jesus

Our freelance photographer Don Eduardo sent us these wonderful pictures. We are eternally grateful, and the $ 50.000 paycheck is well deserved.

Fish, Bergen, Norway

Jesus Christ, our lord and saviour.

MALBA, Buenos Aires.

The Rolling Stone, Tibás, San José, Costa Rica

Unknown Soldier #2, Buenos Aires

Unknown Soldier #3, possibly somewhere in Uruguay

Somewhere in Buenos Aires

This picture was taken at 3.11 a.m. on december 13, and now, only two months later, I have forgotten where I was at that time. Chances are that this picture was taken at a bar, though. somewhere.

Melonio, Montevideo 177

Melonio is a rather strange little bar. The walls are covered with porn and heavy metal posters, so it might not be the perfect place to bring a date. Note the informative piece of paper above the urinal. Picture 3 is from the entrance of the ladies' room.

Unione e Benevolenza, Perón 1372

A fine basement for rock&roll concerts, this one. Not the most underground of the basements Buenos Aires has to offer - entrance and beer are more expensive than elsewhere, and smoking is only allowed in the back - but it's a nice place.

Bar & Pool Imaginate, Sarmiento al 1600

Imaginate is a beautiful place. Cheap beer in 1 l bottles, open till 6 a.m. The jukebox offers a variety of cumbias.

Tomo I, Carlos Pellegrini 521, Buenos Aires

Tomo Uno is located close to the obelisco, and is perhaps the finest restaurant in town. Excellent food and, more important, shiny WCs.

Cafe Il Duo

If you ever find your self in need of a WC near Plaza Irlanda, you would find one at Cafe Il Duo. It works perfectly.

Bellagamba 2

Bellagamba dos in Caballito (Av. Gaona 1327) has the same happy feeling as nr. 1 in Rivadavia, perhaps caused by those marvellously cheap beers and tasty empanadas, but it's larger and has a small patio which is open during the day. They're also working on a second floor, where smoking will be allowed and probably encouraged.

Cafe de la Subasta

Cafe de la Subasta, Rio de Janeiro 54.

A great place, open every night from 18 till late. Pooltables, a fireplace, smoking area upstairs and ridiculously strong gin&tonics.

Pool San Bernardo

Pool San Bernardo, in Corrientes not far from Malabia at subte B, is probably the most perfect bar in the universe. Not only is the beer cheap and plentiful, it also has a lot of pool tables, entertaining senior citizens and, alas!, ping pong tables in the smoking area for those of us who take sports seriously.

Picture 1 is from the ladies' room, thanks to MJ for the research.

Superclásico River - Boca 07.10.2007

These pictures are from the ladies' room at a bar located in Piedras / Carlos Calvo. Being practically the only place in town with cable tv, the bar was packed with football fans. Talking about cable, the one on the pictures is not an IWCRP product. What appears to be a miniature Obelisco replica simply would not disappear, despite frantic flushing. We suspect that a Boca fan left it there, as the WC no doubt reminds of the no less polluted Riachuelo.

Animal Planet

Young Perejil demonstrates his cajita, which he much prefers to the larger WC in the background. And that is fortunate, as the WC doesn't work anymore after the plumber fixed it.

Cyber Coffee, Rivadavia 2742

This internet cafe was the only place we could find that would sell us beer at 5 a.m. Not a bad place at all, despite their unwillingness to lend us the broom for hat-dance-purpose. The excrements on the picture are not mine.

Bar de Roberto/ 12 de Octubre, Bulnes 331.

A great place, this one.
Open monday-friday 19-04.

Casona Cultural Humahuaca, Humahuaca 3508

This cafe in Abasto has a nice little patio, a couple of friendly cats, good empanadas and cheap beer. Open ca 17 - 03

Remember Pub, Corrientes 1983

Remember pub is a nice place. We have not seen any other guests any of the times we've been there, and the bartender is perhaps the unjolliest bartender we have ever seen, but the place has a good atmosphere nonetheless. It appears that there are rock'n'roll-concerts there on weekends. Open every day 20 - 06.

Brasserie petanque, Defensa 595, San Telmo

Probably the best food we've had at any restaurant in Buenos Aires. Good service, good wines and relatively cheap.

Gibraltar, San Telmo

Peru 895. Gibraltar is a quite decent bar, popular amongst tourists, and locals who believe that foreign girls are easier than the porteñas. Offers a ridiculously smoke-filled smoking area with a pooltable and silly, dead serious people (gringos and belgian backpackers)playing pool. Gin Tonic: 7 pesos. Several draft and bottled beers, and a very large amount of different whiskies.

La Resistencia, San Telmo

Defensa 827. Not a bad place to be. Smoking area and happy hour untill 23 hs; 2 gin & tonic - 10 pesos is one of the superofertas.
