Cabinas de Oro, Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica

For very little money, Cabinas de Oro is part of the proud costa rican tradition of naming places after the exact opposite of what comes to mind.

The hot and humid rooms are perfect options for travelling mosquitos, and they seemed to thrive quite well in there; getting along with the other bugs just adorably.

The toilet paper which can be observed on the seat is not for protecting oneself´s behind against the occational drop of contaminated H2O so commonly found on seats; in this case it´s for preventing one´s behind from being glued to the seat by the blue, apparently glue-based paint someone decorated it with.

Waterfall Garden, Costa Rica

Waterfall Garden is a suitable name for a place with both urinals and several of the more traditonal chair-style WCs.

Interestingly enough, if you walk into the forest after seeing the WC, there are several large WCs, with running water and all, made by mother nature itself.

As part of the gimmick, Waterfall Garden has called them "Waterfalls" as well.

Buenos Aires, Costa Rica

Ticabus makes one stop between San José and the border, to allow the passengers to use these tip-top facilities at a restaurant there.

Ticabus

The trip from San José, Costa Rica to Panama City lasts no less than 17 hours, including 4 hours at the border. The seats are practically non-reclinable, but the WC functions quite well.

After crossing the border, the bus company spoiled us with the following five films:

  • Wrongfully Accused, aka Leslie Nielsen ist sehr verdächtig
  • Little Man
  • Hot Shots
  • Hot Shots 2
  • The Animal w/ Rob Schneider

Ticabus

The Ticabus bus station in San José offers its clients a lovely unisex WC.

The yellow on the picture is not mine, nor is the moisture on the seat. I think it´s always like this.

Bar La Victoria, San José

Bar La Victoria is one of the classics. Almost the definition of a good, costa rican chinchorro, which could be defined as a place with ridiculously cheap alcohol, non-existing hygiene, pictures of scantily clad ladies on the wall and a padlock on the door of the ladies´room if they have one.

Here we saw the second half of Saprissa-Cartago, which ended 1-2.

Chinese restaurant, San José

Since the people at famous hole-in-the wall Bar el Castillo refused to show the Saprissa-Cartago game, we had to watch it at Rest. Pong Yak instead. Only the first half, though; the second was watched at bar La Victoria.
